Body contouring
Liposuction in Merida, Mexico
High-definition 360° liposuction performed in a full hospital by Dr. José Antonio Orozco Gómez, plastic surgeon board-certified by the CMCPER. It removes the localised fat that diet and exercise do not reach and redefines the contour of the abdomen, waist, back, arms and thighs in a single procedure.
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is surgery that removes deposits of localised fat through cannulas introduced via incisions of about half a centimetre. It is not a weight-loss method: it is a contouring procedure. It removes fat that stays in specific areas even when weight is stable and diet is good.
The 360° version treats the full circumference of the torso — abdomen, flanks, waist, upper and lower back — rather than an isolated area. The result reads as balanced from every angle, not just from the front.
Who is a good candidate?
You are a good candidate if your weight is stable, you have localised fat that resists diet and exercise, your skin has good quality and elasticity, and your general health is suitable for elective surgery.
When liposuction is not the answer
- If there is loose or excess skin, removing fat leaves it hanging more. That case calls for abdominoplasty, alone or combined.
- If the goal is weight loss. Liposuction does not replace obesity treatment or bariatric surgery.
- If your weight is actively changing. It is better to stabilise it first.
This is settled in consultation, with measurements and examination. A surgeon who offers the same procedure for every body is not assessing.
Technology and technique
Dr. Orozco uses VASER, BodyTite, HEUS and Dorian depending on what each case requires. These are not interchangeable brands: each solves a different problem.
| Technology | What it adds | When it is chosen |
|---|---|---|
| VASER | Ultrasound that emulsifies fat before aspiration | High-definition results; fibrous areas such as the back |
| BodyTite | Radiofrequency that tightens skin from within | Mild to moderate skin laxity |
| HEUS | High-efficiency assisted aspiration | Larger volumes with less tissue trauma |
| Fat grafting | Reinjection of harvested fat | Buttocks, face, correction of irregularities |
High-definition liposuction
Where anatomy allows, superficial planes are treated to reveal the underlying musculature rather than only reducing volume. It requires longer operating time and stricter patient selection: without real muscle underneath, definition does not appear.

Recovery, week by week
| Stage | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Days 1–3 | Swelling and manageable pain controlled with oral analgesics. Walking from day one. Compression garment 24 hours a day. |
| Days 4–7 | Pain drops; swelling persists. Return to desk work around day 7. |
| Weeks 2–3 | Lymphatic drainage massage begins. Bruising resolving. |
| Weeks 4–6 | Gradual return to exercise. Garment per instruction. |
| Months 3–6 | Contour defines. Residual swelling resolves. |
| Month 6+ | Final result assessable. |
The compression garment and lymphatic drainage are not optional. They are the difference between an even contour and an irregular one.
Risks and safety
Every surgery carries risk, and anyone telling you otherwise is not informing you. In liposuction the main risks are seroma, contour irregularities, sensory changes, haematoma and, less frequently, venous thrombosis. Most are prevented by appropriate patient selection, reasonable surgical volume, early mobilisation and antithrombotic prophylaxis.
That is why every patient is cleared by internal medicine and, depending on profile, cardiology before a date exists — and why the procedure is done in a hospital with a certified anaesthesiologist, never in an office.
Why operate with Dr. Orozco
- Verifiable certification — CMCPER 2541, specialty licence 14126757.
- A full team — internal medicine, cardiology, anaesthesiology, nutrition, ultrasound imaging and surgical nursing on every case.
- Hospital, not an office — Hospital Faro del Mayab (Christus Muguerza).
- Reconstructive training — fine handling of tissue and scars comes from reconstructive surgery, and it shows in the contour.

Frequently asked questions
How is the cost of liposuction in Merida set?
Cost is determined at your consultation and depends on the number of areas, operating time, the technology used, the hospital, the anaesthesia team, pre-operative testing and the follow-up included. Single-area liposuction and a high-definition 360° case are not comparable. You receive a written, itemised quote with no costs appearing later.
How much weight will I lose with liposuction?
Almost none, and that is not its purpose. Liposuction removes localised fat volume, not body weight: the scale may barely move while your measurements change noticeably. The volume that can be removed safely is capped by clinical criteria, not by patient preference.
Does the fat come back after liposuction?
The fat cells removed do not regrow, but the ones that remain can enlarge if you gain weight. The result lasts as long as your weight stays stable. Significant weight gain will deposit fat — in the treated area and elsewhere.
Is it painful?
The first three days are uncomfortable, comparable to very intense exercise, and controlled well with oral analgesics. What bothers most patients is not pain but swelling and the compression garment during the early weeks.
When can I return to the gym?
Walking from day one. Light cardio from week four. Weights and impact exercise between weeks six and eight, depending on progress and with clearance at a follow-up visit.
Can it be combined with another surgery?
Yes. The most frequent combination is with abdominoplasty or breast surgery. It is decided at your consultation, and the limit is safe operating time and your general condition, not a wish list.
Will there be scars?
The incisions are about half a centimetre and are placed in natural creases and areas covered by underwear. They become very hard to notice over time, though healing depends on each person's skin.
