Breast augmentation in Merida, Mexico
Implant-based breast augmentation, planned in consultation with body measurements and sizers so you can see the result before choosing. Performed in a full hospital by Dr. José Antonio Orozco Gómez, plastic surgeon board-certified by the CMCPER.
What is breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation increases breast volume by placing a silicone implant beneath the breast gland or the pectoral muscle. It is performed under general anaesthesia, takes one to two hours, and discharge is usually the same day or the following morning.
It is not simply adding volume. A good result depends on the implant matching your chest measurements, your skin quality and the current position of the breast.
How the implant is chosen: measurements, not cup sizes
In consultation, the breast base width, the sternal-notch-to-nipple distance, the inframammary fold and skin elasticity are all measured. Those measurements define the implant range your body can carry, and within that range sizers are used so you see the volume before deciding.
This is the step Dr. Orozco describes as essential: “we take measurements and use sizers to make every part of the procedure as clear as possible”.
Decisions made in consultation
- Implant profile — low, moderate or high, based on desired projection and chest width.
- Placement plane — subglandular, submuscular or dual plane, based on tissue cover.
- Approach — inframammary fold, periareolar or axillary.
- Texture and shape — round or anatomical, smooth or textured.
If the breast has also descended, augmentation alone will not correct it: it is combined with a lift (mastopexy). This is assessed in consultation.

What recovery is like
| Stage | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Days 1–3 | Discomfort and a sensation of pressure. Oral analgesics. Post-surgical bra worn continuously. |
| Days 4–7 | Marked drop in discomfort. Return to desk work around day 7. |
| Weeks 2–4 | No raising arms above shoulder height, no lifting. |
| Weeks 4–6 | Gradual return to exercise; chest work last. |
| Months 3–6 | Implants settle into their natural position and the result matures. |
What you see in the first week is not the final result: implants take months to settle. Sitting high and firm at first is normal.
Risks and safety
The main risks are capsular contracture, seroma, haematoma, changes in nipple sensation, residual asymmetry and, rarely, implant rupture or displacement. Implants are not lifetime devices: they may need revision or exchange over the years.
Every implant used is registered and traceable; you receive the brand, lot number and volume in writing. That card is yours — keep it.
Long-term follow-up
Annual clinical review is recommended, with imaging as indicated. Having implants does not exempt you from breast screening: it is coordinated using the appropriate technique for patients with implants.
Patient reviews
“An excellent explanation of the procedures. He is the one who will be doing my surgery.”
“A very detailed explanation of the treatment and excellent bedside manner. An excellent surgeon.”
Frequently asked questions
How is the cost of breast augmentation in Merida set?
It is set at your consultation, based on the implant brand and type, whether a lift is combined, operating time, the hospital, the anaesthesia team, pre-operative testing and the follow-up included. You receive a written, itemised quote.
Do implants have to be replaced every ten years?
There is no automatic expiry date. Current guidance is clinical and imaging surveillance, with exchange only when there is an indication: contracture, rupture, a change in aesthetic goals, or tissue changes over time. Many patients pass the ten-year mark without needing revision.
Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?
In most cases yes. The approaches and planes normally used preserve the gland and the ducts. No breast surgery guarantees lactation completely, but implant augmentation does not prevent it as a rule.
Will it feel different to the touch?
It depends on how much of your own tissue covers the implant. More gland and muscle cover means a more natural feel. This is one of the factors that determines the placement plane.
When can I return to the gym?
Walking from day one. Light cardio from week four. Upper-body weights and chest work between weeks six and eight, with clearance at a follow-up visit.
What if I want them removed later?
They can be removed at any time. The result after removal depends on how long they were in place, the volume and your skin elasticity; sometimes a lift is done at the same time.
